Providence, Rhode Island voters approved a ballot initiative on divestment from Israel, with about 75% in favor, on 3 November 2026. The measure requires the city to sell direct investments in countries and companies that knowingly enable abuses including genocide, apartheid and illegal military occupation. Haaretz called Providence the largest US city to divest from Israel. The Times of Israel reported that the measure calls on the city to avoid investing in foreign countries conducting ethnic cleansing, apartheid, illegal military occupation or genocide.
