Researchers using NASA's Hubble Space Telescope found much of the oxygen expected in 37 nearby dwarf galaxies is missing. The study included NGC 4449, a dwarf irregular galaxy featured in a NASA release on November 2, 2026. Dwarf galaxies contain a few thousand to hundreds of millions of stars. The missing oxygen is an unresolved puzzle for astronomers studying how these galaxies evolve.
