Macronix, a major memory supplier for Nintendo Switch game cartridges, said on its recent earnings call that it will gradually phase out ROM production. The company is shifting toward NOR and NAND flash memory for data centers. Macronix reported that its ROM revenue fell 39 percent year over year in the third quarter of 2026, while NOR revenue rose 158 percent and NAND revenue surged 768 percent.
