Democrats won control of both the US Senate and the House in the midterm elections held on 3 November 2026, taking both chambers from Republicans and delivering a stinging rebuke to President Donald Trump and the Republican Party. Deutsche Welle reported that vote counts were still ongoing when the House majority was called. BBC World reported that in South Carolina, Democrat Annie Andrews was projected to defeat Darline Graham, whom Trump handpicked to take her brother's seat after his death, giving the state a Democratic senator for the first time in almost three decades. BBC World also reported that James Talarico became the first Democrat to win the Texas Senate seat since 1988, and that Republican Byron Donalds, backed by Trump, was set to become Florida's first black governor. DW also analysed who voted for each party and what the results mean for the rest of Trump's term.
