Barryscourt Castle sits just outside Carrigtwohill in County Cork, Ireland, where its medieval stonework is a reminder of the area's history, according to Atlas Obscura. The castle dates principally from the late medieval period, and Heritage Ireland dates its construction to between 1392 and 1420. Atlas Obscura reported that the site's stones also carry traces of rebellion, domestic life and fragments of Ogham, an early Irish writing system. The castle remains a quiet place where visitors can see the landscape and the layers of Ireland's past.
