Iran's Revolutionary Guard said on 5 November that two oil tankers and a tugboat caught fire in the Strait of Hormuz in separate incidents. The IRGC said one large tanker hit a mine after using what it called an illegal southern passageway, while another vessel caught fire as it exited the waterway in the east. The IRGC said the vessels were using an unauthorised route. Middle East Eye separately reported that South Korea's Cheonghae anti-piracy unit will expand operations closer to the Strait of Hormuz, with the government seeking parliamentary approval to extend its deployment beyond the end of this year.
