Israeli opposition figures and commentators accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on 5 November of using the Shin Bet to overturn the election result and cling to power. The accusations followed his coalition's defeat in the October 28 national election. Critics point to the Shin Bet's probe into alleged foreign interference in the vote as evidence of the strategy. The allegations come as Netanyahu's position weakens and President Herzog weighs whether to task him or rival Benny Eisenkot with forming a government. Netanyahu's office has not been quoted in the reports reviewed. Middle East Eye carried the accusations in a report published on 5 November.
