Wafa reported that Gaza recorded 260 newborn birth defect cases from January to September 2026, more than the 184 recorded in all of 2022. A medical source told Wafa the figures compare with the year before Israel's war on the territory began. The figures come from a Gaza medical source and have not been independently verified.
