Israeli President Isaac Herzog said on Thursday he will announce his chosen candidate to form a government on Sunday, November 8, after the 27 October election ended in deadlock. Herzog said parties representing 67 of the 120 lawmakers picked opposition leader Gadi Eisenkot, while factions representing 46 lawmakers picked Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. On the second day of consultations in Jerusalem, Mansour Abbas, leader of the Palestinian-led Ra'am party, endorsed Eisenkot. Netanyahu has accused Palestinian-majority parties of accepting foreign funding ahead of the vote, in which Palestinian voters turned out in record numbers.
