Cristiano Ronaldo announced his retirement from international football on 5 November 2026, ending a Portugal career of 234 caps and 146 goals after a fallout with coach Jorge Jesus. Ronaldo said the day had come for him to hand back the number seven shirt. He scored 11 World Cup goals across six tournaments since 2006.
