Far-left French presidential candidate Jean-Luc Mélenchon launched his 2027 presidential programme on Saturday with a speech near Paris. He announced plans to raise France's minimum wage, cap prices for essential foods and restore the retirement age to 60, according to France 24. Mélenchon is a polarising figure for the general electorate but is popular among France's youth. France 24 reported that young voters are drawn to his progressive proposals and say he encourages them to become more involved in politics. Polls currently indicate he is the left wing's strongest contender against far-right candidate Marine Le Pen.
