Multiple independent outlets (The Moscow Times, The Record/Recorded Future News, Civil Georgia, News.az, 1TV Georgia, Caucasian Knot) reported in early August that Georgia's State Security Service (SSSG) said it had found social media posts on X — allegedly from restaurant/service staff claiming they had urinated in or spat on food served to Russian tourists — and that the SSSG attributed these posts to 'foreign-controlled bot accounts' registered abroad as part of a sabotage/disinformation campaign meant to scare off Russian tourists. The pro-Kremlin Telegram channel Mash amplified screenshots of these posts. Crucially, The Record explicitly noted 'the authenticity of the posts has not been independently verified,' and the SSSG's claim is a government assertion, not a finding by any independent forensic or fact-checking body.
