Multiple independent outlets confirm this event. The Moscow Times reported (Aug 28) that a Ukrainian drone attack killed one person and sparked a fire at the Slavneft-Yanos oil refinery in Yaroslavl, citing Yaroslavl region Governor Mikhail Yevrayev, who said one civilian was killed and 27 others injured after falling drone debris hit an intercity bus, with 67 drones reportedly downed over the region. Kyiv Independent corroborated the same casualty figures (one dead, 27 injured) attributed to Governor Yevraev, and noted the strike also targeted a Tu-95 bomber base at Engels. Kyiv Post separately reported Ukraine's SBU confirmed strikes on the Slavneft-YANOS refinery as part of a broader overnight drone operation. Note there was also a later, separate drone strike on the same refinery reported by Moscow Times in mid-September 2026 with no casualties reported that time, so care should be taken not to conflate the two incidents.
