The claim originates from a Russian FSB statement issued September 10, 2026, announcing the arrest of a Russian national (a former guard contracted to protect the British Embassy in Moscow) accused of gathering intelligence on British diplomats for Ukraine's SBU. The FSB alleged Ukraine intended to use this information to stage a false-flag terrorist/sabotage attack on British diplomatic personnel and blame Russia, in order to drag the UK into direct conflict, secure more Western weapons for Kyiv, and increase sanctions on Russia. This FSB claim was reported by multiple outlets, including The Moscow Times, Bloomberg, and RT, all of which simply relayed the FSB's own statement without independent verification. One outlet (Streamlinefeed) explicitly noted that 'The FSB's account cannot be independently verified' and that Russian reporting included no reaction from the British government. No British government statement, Ukrainian government/SBU denial, or independent investigative confirmation of the alleged plot was found in searches.
